Organization of health improvement programs for children in the Gomel region during the winter holidays of the 2025-2026 academic year

19-December-2025

To organize health and recreation, and create conditions for active, developmental leisure for children and adolescents during the winter holidays from December 25, 2025, to January 7, 2026, 405 educational and health camps and day camps will operate in the Gomel Region, providing health and wellness services to over 9,000 children.

The camps will last five and seven days, taking into account the wishes of the legal representatives of students in each district.

For this purpose, over 260,000 rubles have been allocated from the republican budget for the health and wellness of children in the Gomel Region. According to the order of the Republican Center for Health and Sanatorim-Resort Treatment of the Population, the amount of funds to reduce the cost of a 5-day day camp trip is 25.00 rubles, and for a 7-day trip, 35.00 rubles.

A child's access to day camp services is provided based on a camp voucher and the payment of a parental fee in accordance with the signed agreement.

The average cost of a voucher to educational and health-improving day camps, depending on the child's age, is as follows:

- 5-day: children aged 6-10 – 31.25 rubles, 11-13 – 35.52 rubles, 14-17 – 38.49 rubles;

- 7-day: children aged 6-10 – 43.59 rubles, 11-13 – 49.28 rubles, 14-17 – 53.50 rubles.

Day camps are organized in compliance with sanitary, fire safety, and other requirements for children's health and wellness.

The camps will provide three nutritious meals a day in accordance with the approved in-kind and monetary food expenditure standards established by the legislation of the Republic of Belarus. Drinking water will be provided using bottled water and disposable tableware.

The camp organizers have developed educational plans for children in need of health improvement, including cultural and physical education events, walks, and excursions. They also create optimal conditions for children's health improvement, active recreation, and opportunities for each child, based on their needs and abilities, to realize their potential and express their individuality and creativity.

For example, as part of the winter health campaign, the camps in the Mozyr district are becoming centers of attraction, where fun and learning go hand in hand, and every day brings new discoveries to children. Interactive science shows and workshops are planned, including "Snow Fantasies" and "DIY Winter Fairytale," where students will learn to create winter decorations from eco-friendly materials. These will teach children to see the magic in ordinary things and the laws of nature. Traditional winter activities, such as "Snow Maze" and "Winter Marathon," include team sled relay races, snow fort building, and treasure hunts. These activities will not only bring joy but also improve health and team spirit. Particular attention is paid to charity: children eagerly participate in the "Kind Hands" campaign, making handmade gifts and cards for the elderly. "Wish Tree" and "Good Deeds Marathon" are campaigns to fulfill the wishes of children from low-income families. A joint charity fair and sale of handcrafted items teaches students social responsibility. Thematic days such as "Winter Traditions Day of the World's Peoples" and "Space Travel Day" broaden children's horizons, transforming their vacation into a captivating educational adventure. Exciting quests and quizzes related to winter traditions and holidays, such as "Secrets of the Winter Forest" and "In Search of New Year's Artifacts," are planned. These events develop logic and erudition, and allow children to reinforce their academic knowledge through play.

As part of the winter break camps, excursions to the OSVOD rescue station, the Regional Department of Emergency Situations, the Department of Internal Affairs, the Zhlobin Zoo, the Rodina Cinema, museums, businesses, and organizations are planned at educational institutions in the Zhlobin District. Meetings with representatives of law enforcement agencies responsible for preventing deaths and injuries to minors and preventing unlawful behavior will be held at each educational institution.

The program also includes volunteer work: the "Yunost" detachment from Pirevichskaya Secondary School will perform a program called "New Year's Greetings" at the Bobovsky Park.

Healthy lifestyle promotion events will be held, including meetings with renowned athletes from the Zhlobin region, and friendly matches between student teams and representatives of law enforcement or athletes. An interdepartmental sports and legal event, "School, Sports, and Me – Together We Are a Happy Family," will be held at Krasnoberezhskaya Secondary School, while Secondary School No. 11 will host a sports and prevention campaign, "Down with Smoking and Beer! More Positive Sports!"

Children in foster care, those living at risk, and those with special needs are actively involved in the camp events.

Traditionally, during the winter holidays, winners of international, regional, and national creative competitions, sports competitions, children with disabilities, children from large and low-income families, and orphans will participate in New Year's charity celebrations, which will be held at the Gomel State Circus with the participation of Gomel Region Governor I. Krupko and the city cultural center, with the participation of V. Privalov, Chairman of the Gomel City Executive Committee.

Thus, the winter health campaign in educational institutions will provide unique opportunities for organizing engaging events that promote not only health but also the all-round development of children. Participation in such events will allow schoolchildren not only to relax and recharge, but also to acquire new skills, improve their health, and experience positive emotions.
